We’re excited to announce that as of yesterday, our application to become a certified member of Social Enterprise UK has been approved!
WHAT’S A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
A Social Enterprise means business that does good things with its profits.
Think of TOMS SHOES, founded by Blake Mycoski, when you buy a pair of shoes, a pair is donated to a child in Argentina. Or how about PETIT MIRACLES in West London – a non-profit business that acts as a hub for makers and creators.
Both of these business have social and environmental objectives at their heart, and they use profit or surplus to achieve these.
Here’s a handy video from Social Enterprise UK explaining it in simpler terms:
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR LUSHSPACE.IO?
This is our firm commitment to supporting social and environmental projects as part of our community offer. When we make a profit (surplus) in a borough that we work in, those profits are shared.
The majority of our profits go into our grants programme, to subsidise management of community or environmental projects or to gift design and consultation services to groups and individuals who would otherwise not be able to afford work on their gardens.
We’re also serious about investing in our team, who are part of our beneficiaries – we invest into their continuous professional development through formal and informal learning and provide our team with a share of our profits with our annual bonus scheme.
We also provide placements and professional support to student horticulturalists through our bursary programme.
Our vision is to have a thriving horticultural sector where collaboration and sharing success is at the heart of what we do – our membership formalises this promise.
